History

In 1985 brothers Steve and Joe Wagner opened Wagner's Taekwondo in Greenwood, NS. Both men were blackbelts in Hapkido and Taekwondo, training for a number of years under Master Chang Man Yang. Both were very well known on the Maritime Taekwondo competition circuit, winning at every level and style (back when all styles of Martial Arts would compete against eachother).

Later that year, Wagner's switched to ITF Taekwondo under Master Y.K Kim in Halifax. They continued to train and compete in the ITF circuit until early 1988 when they made the switch to WTF in hopes of shooting for the Olympics, as Taekwondo was being introduced as an Olympic sport for the first time.

In 1988 they came in contact with the legendary Grand Master Oh Jang Yoon (9th dan and 6 time World Champion) and Wagner's Taekwondo went under Master Yoon's guidance, a Grandmaster which we are still under after all these years.

Master Steve Wagner left in 1990 to pursue other career choices and Master Joe Wagner took over as head of Wagner's TKD schools. In almost 30 years of being open we have had great success in every aspect of Taekwondo. We have trained more than 4000 students and have over 400 Blackbelts under our name.

Our team has won over 85 National medals and 14 National titles. We have many Taekwondo clubs under our name in Nova Scotia, and Master Wagner still is a consultant to many other TKD clubs all over Canada. In 1998 Master Wagner became the first non-Korean Master to be selected as a head coach for Team Canada for the World Junior Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. Master Wagner went on to coach Team Canada at many events including World Championships, Pan-Am games and The U.S. Open, scoring international medals at every event he coached.
